#88- Unseen, Unspoken, Unwell – The Self-Care Myth Part 3

May 22, 2025

You’ve heard it all when it comes to self-care: grab a coffee, get a massage, sip some tea. But Dr. Phyllis realized something important—real self-care isn’t something you schedule. It’s something you reclaim.

For a long time, self-care felt impossible to fit in. She was running from one thing to the next, barely catching her breath. And when she did squeeze in a moment for herself, it often felt like just another task. The activity might have been labeled “self-care,” but it wasn’t actually reaching her soul.

That’s when everything shifted. She began to see that self-care isn’t a temporary escape. It’s a daily realignment. Unless it addresses your depletion, it’s just surface-level maintenance. True care goes deeper.

It required asking a different question: What is your soul actually striving for?

Here are three myths Dr. Phyllis believes keep people stuck:

  1. Self-care is a reward you get when everything’s done. In truth, it should be a rhythm, not a reward.
  2. Self-care is a moment. Soul care is a mindset—it shapes how you move through life, not just how you pause.
  3. Self-care is selfish. It’s not. When done from a soul-centered place, it’s necessary and deeply sustaining.

When you approach care from a soul care perspective, it stops being optional. It becomes essential.

Quotes from Todays’ Episode:

“True self care isn’t about as much a temporary escape, it’s about a daily realignment.”

“But when you come at it from the soul care perspective, it is a necessity. God wants you to be your very best, your very best.”
