#66- Let Go of FOMO and Embrace JOMO

December 19, 2024

The holiday season is here, and along with it comes a never-ending string of parties, events, and gatherings. Invitations pile up, and so do expectations—both our own and those we think others have for us. It’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to do it all, only to find yourself stretched thin, burnt out, and wondering how you got here in the first place.

Sound familiar?

Maybe you’ve RSVP’d “yes” but deep down think, I just don’t want to go. Yet, instead of staying home, you push yourself to show up. Why? Often, it’s the fear of missing out—FOMO—that keeps us in motion. We don’t want to feel left out or let others down. But this constant pushing and stretching thin isn’t sustainable, and it often robs us of the joy this season is supposed to bring.

Here’s a different perspective: what if, instead of FOMO, you embraced JOMO—the joy of missing out? Sometimes saying no can bring the relief and rest you truly need. By skipping what drains you, you create space to pour energy back into what matters most.

This holiday season, give yourself permission to pause. It’s okay to miss out if it means finding joy, peace, and a little more space to breathe.

Quotes from Today’s Episode:

“Our plate is so full, and life keeps serving up stuff on our plate without asking us how much we want.”

“I want you to really evaluate every upcoming activity over the holiday season. Every dinner, every lunch, every breakfast, every meeting, every program, every event, and yes, every sale, everything. Please take a moment and prioritize. Where do you just have to be? Where do you just really, really have to be?”
